Ensign Ro Laren is welcomed back with a party after Advanced Tactical Training. Almost immediately she's picked as best suited for an undercover mission in the demilitarized zone, to prevent the peace treaty with the Cardassians being undermined by illegally attacking Federation 'maquis' ships. Again given her ethnic and personal background, the conflict of loyalties -existing with Riker and other crew too- grows as her covert mission to trap the resistance fighters succeeds. Written by
Did You Know?
The Lieutenant Commander whom Ro refers to (her instructor at Starfleet Advanced Tactical Training who joined the Maquis) was supposed to be a subtle nod toward Chakotay. But this intention was later contradicted in Star Trek: Voyager: In the Flesh
(1998), where we learn that Chakotay resigned his Starfleet commission in 2368, two years before Ro's time on the course. See more
In the opening battle with the Maquis, when the Enterprise disperses two of the ships with phaser fire, space appears to be shaking. This, however, seems to be a common effect whenever explosions occur, in order to simulate the shock wave. See more
