Storyline

While the Enterprise is in a star-base Lt. Commander Geordi La Forge gets a very special visitor, brilliant engineering designer Dr. Leah Brahms, who he feels to know almost intimately as a 'hologram version' of herself with 'whom' he bonded. However the real Brahms proves icy and arrogantly unwilling to consider any of Geordi's empirical findings could conceivably stand against her theoretically impermeable truth. They take on the challenge to collaborate and learn to know each-other better, but when Geordi shows her his hologram version of her Brahms feels almost pornographically 'abused', one prejudiced insult too many for him. Meanwhile Picard, his bridge officers and Dr. Crusher have a very different problem, a strange life form which approaches and dies but is found to have given birth to a baby version inside its corpse, which must be separated to stand a chance of survival. When that succeeds, 'junior' instinctively identifies the Enterprise as its mother and locks on draining... Written by KGF Vissers

The engineering log seen in this episode is unlike any other LCARS screen seen in the different series. It is green and features a completely different font. See more »

Goofs

Geordi takes the warp core off line without informing the bridge. Though it is not stated it is fairly sure that regulations would require the warp core to remain on-line at all times while the ship is operating in deep space except in emergencies. As no emergency is present, it seems he should at the very least obtain permission from the captain to take it off line. See more »

Quotes

[Geordi and Leah have settled their personal problems]
Dr. Leah Brahms: I wouldn't change a thing - except for the way I behaved. I guess I came here with my own set of preconceptions about you.
Lt. Commander Geordi La Forge: Well, I guess I'm just glad that I got the opportunity to get to know you. The real you.
Dr. Leah Brahms: Me too.

LaForge is one creepy guy!
19 November 2014 | by (Bradenton, Florida) – See all my reviews

Maybe it's just me or maybe times have changed, but this episode highlighting Geordi LaForge is one CREEPY show! Back a season ago, Geordi created a holo version of the engines' designer, Leah Brahms. Oddly, he became infatuated with her and so when he learns that the REAL Dr. Brahms is coming to see him and the ship, he is excited. When she arrives, Geordi cannot contain his excitement--and he continually makes overtures towards her. Perhaps 'overtures' isn't quite right--more like sexual harassment by his creepy tone and sense of entitlement. I could EASILY see a woman macing a guy who acts like this or getting him fired or reprimanded--and you'd think this sort of boorish behavior would not be tolerated in the 24th century!

As for the rest of the show, it's a pretty dull affair involving some flying space slug...or something. All in all, a very poor and incredibly creepy episode--one that has only gotten creepier since its debut.
