This is the first time in the Star Trek universe that Michael Dorn is seen out of his Klingon makeup. He appears as a human visitor on Risa in the opening seconds of the episode.

A final scene was originally written, which mirrored the first scene on Risa, suggesting that the Vorgons did, indeed, make another - and possibly successful - attempt to obtain the Tox Uthat. In the end, the scene was not realized though, as it was deemed a little confusing and "didn't quite work", according to Michael Piller.
