Michael Dorn, the actor who plays Worf, can be seen twice (without his Klingon make-up), as a tourist. In fact, he is the first character to appear in the episode as it starts on Risa. He walks across the screen left to right with a woman in red, then, as the picture zooms back, he can be seen walking toward the back of the space on the right. He is wearing a purple tank top and orange swim bottoms. He can be seen again in the scene where Vash slips the disc into Picard's tunic. He's sitting in a wicker chair behind Vash, Picard, and the Ferengi, on the right, in the same outfit.
The scene where Dr. Crusher tells Captain Picard about a member of the crew that is showing signs of stress and exhaustion, parallels a similar scene in Shore Leave (1966). Spock attempts the same strategy with Captain Kirk, which tricks Kirk into saying that the said crewman is under orders to accept shore leave. To which Spock then reveals that the crewman in question was actually the Captain. However, In the scene where Beverly attempts this, Captain Picard sees through the ruse quite easily.
The view of Risa when the enterprise comes into orbit is actually Australia, specifically focused on the state of South Australia.
This episode is the only time "transporter code 14" is used or mentioned in the entire franchise.
The part of the Ferengi Sovak is played by Max Grodénchik, who later had a recurring role as Quark's brother Rom in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993).
