- Harry Mudd returns with a plot to take over the Enterprise by stranding the crew on a planet populated by androids under his command.
- When an android takes control of the Enterprise, Kirk and his crew spend four days traveling at warp speed to an uncharted planet. When they beam down they find none other that Harry Mudd, the apparent ruler of the planet made up entirely of androids. It turns out there is one major problem with Harry's idyllic existence: the androids who serve him hand and foot simply won't allow him to leave. Kirk and Spock devise a way to disable the androids but have their own special plans for Harry.—garykmcd
- Harry Mudd (Roger C. Carmel) is a real scoundrel. He crash landed on a planet filled with androids (Mudd sold Vulcan tech to the Denebians. The Debebians found out and sentenced Mudd to the death penalty. Mudd stole a spaceship and tried to escape, but the Denebians fired at him. Mudd's ship was damaged and he had no navigation and landed on the android planet), and he is the ruler now, because he has human ideas and feelings which the androids need in order to survive. So Harry dispatches the lead android, Norman (Richard Tatro), to take over the Enterprise and bring them back to this planet so that Harry can leave (living with only androids is not fun) and Kirk and his crew can look after the androids. It is the only way that the androids will let Harry leave. Norman gets into the Enterprise, and then stealth his way into the auxiliary control room and changes the course of the ship to his planet, while overloading the engines. Norman then reveals himself to Kirk and says that he will blow up the ship, if Kirk tries to change the course.
It doesn't sound like a bad place. You can have unlimited female and male slaves, even hundreds of a particular design that you like, and they will serve you forever. but Harry was so bored he created an android of his "wife" from back on earth, named "Stella" (Kay Elliot) who he keeps just so he can tell her to "shut up" and of course she must obey. Norman tells Kirk that their makers came from the Andromeda galaxy. The Makers died when the sun in their system went nova. Norman reveals there are 200,000 androids on the planet. Spock theorizes that they are controlled by a central control system.
Meanwhile Harry distracts Kirk to send up a crew of Andriods to the Enterprise, who beam the entire crew of the Enterprise down to the planet. Once the Enterprise crew is kidnapped, the androids still won't allow Harry to leave (As the androids think humans are corrupt and flawed and cannot be allowed to breed and control the galaxy. So they will serve humans, till they are totally dependent on them and then die out). Norman, and two girls who are identical named Alice (Alyce & Rhea Andrece) try to make them happy, but no one is allowed to leave. So Kirk and Spock come up with a plan, which Harry, who is also a prisoner, agrees to. Spock figures out that every Android is part of a series, except Norman. There is only one Norman, and hence must be the central control system.
First Uhura pretends to want an immortal android body, so that the androids will be off their guard. Then the crew, along with Harry, use illogical statements to confuse the androids (such as that Enterprise is a beautiful lady and they desire it, dancing to celebrate their captivity, striking each other to show that they like each other and so on) and force them to shut down, including the smartest android, Norman (by claiming that they can only be happy in grief, laughing over Scott's death). They quickly conquer the androids.
And to say thanks to Harry for dragging them here, Kirk puts Harry back in charge. Harry looks at all the beautiful female androids and thinks "it's not so bad" but then Kirk unveils the new series of androids, the "Stella" series (Harry Mudd's wife) which have now been programmed to talk nonstop and never shut up, even when they are ordered to by Harry. A fate worse than death. All of the crew laugh.
