High School anxiety!
mm-3926 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
High School anxiety! Pilot starts out strong as an 80's stereo type teen drama. Of course set in Suburbia California! Pilot introduces the characters. The adventures of Patty and Lauren who just can not fit in with the in crowd. Patty has a crush on a older guy, and the two wan bee popular gals try and ditch Marshal the class clown with his out of touch new waver buddy Johnny Slash. The goofy 80's version off Lenny and Squeegee aka from the 70's who try and hang with the girl tandem! Chasing after the popular A team line up of the Italian style Vinnie Pasetta who a 80's remix of Vinnie Barbarino. Vinnie girlfriend is face girls Jennifer and her athletic best friend La Donna. All character have huge stereotype character flaws which made this episode laughable. Everyone, in high school knew such students, and instead of out rages in the 80's we learned to laugh such awkwardness off. Off course the popular kids will diss the Square Pegs, and Patty got a teenage moment wrong. What she feels and reality turns comic. Well only thing that all the characters have in common is a dislike for Muffy the over zealous students council character and the out of touch teachers/adults. Could not be done know of days with all the internet out rage, but the characters flaws, wrong assumptions, self centerless, and other top typed casted adult characters reflects humor with out all the heaviness of todays shows.

A Good Beginning

Patty and Lauren are two awkward teen age girls who strive to be popular at their first day of high school.

A very funny pilot episode, all the characters are introduced and the writing is very sharp. Patty is shy with glasses and Lauren is overweight with braces. The assembly scene begins with perky Muffy and nerdy principal Mr Dingleman. Then we meet popular girl Jennifer who says "like" every other word and her sassy best friend LaDonna. Jennifer's boy friend is Vinnie a handsome but dumb guy who acts like a cross between Stallone and Travolta. They ridicule Patty and Lauren who then make friends with class clown Marshall and Johnny Slash, a spacey New Waver. Everyone of them get some funny lines and scenes. The plot of this one has the handsome senior Larry talking to Patty, They all end up at a dance at the end where the Waitresses perform their hit "I Know What Boys Like" and the series title song.
