Jeremy says that one in four climbers (25%) on Mt. Everest dies. In fact, the fatality rate for climbers on Everest is about 2%. The mountain with a 25% fatality rate among climbers is K2, the second-highest mountain in the world.
This episode revolves around a live feed from a Mt. Everest Summit expedition. The primary climbing season for Everest is in the spring, with most climbers reaching the summit in May. This episode takes place while the NFL season is still on, when it is extremely cold in NYC, probably December (since Thanksgiving was discussed in the previous episode.). Climbers would never try to summit Everest in December.
Jeremy describes High Altitude Cerebral Edema, which is a serious danger for mountain climbers, but his description of the symptoms do not match the real condition. (In reality the brain has become swollen due to the person not properly acclimatizing to the altitude they are at. The sufferer is not usually aware of their changes in behavior and must rely on fellow travelers to spot symptoms, and immediately start descending to the last point the person woke up feeling fine. Any delay in descending can prove fatal.)
