Storyline

When the Mayor falls ill due to Paul spreading a nasty flu bug all around the office, Mike steps in for His Honor on the national TV show "Counterpoint." The best part is that his opponent happens to be his girlfriend, Ashley. Also, Carter has the staff coming to him for ridiculous dating and relationship advice. At the end, he thanks God that he's gay. Written by Boucy

The main story just was not interesting.
3 January 2015 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

In this mid-episode for season one, there is a flu bug going around the office and it looks like Paul is the one spreading the virus. Mayor Winston is set to appear on a local political show called Counterpoint, where they are going to be talking about bringing large super stores into the area. It just so happens that Ashley is going to have one view while the Mayor the other.

Everything is set until the day of the broadcast when the Mayor comes down with the virus. Mike is now going to have to fill-in for the Mayor. So it will be Ashley and Mike going against each other on public TV. It appears to be a no win situation for Mike.

I am sure the episode was filmed with the best intentions but here is another example of the side plot, of James liking Nikki, being more interesting than the main story. The interaction of the office was much more interesting than the relationship between Mike and Ashley. This maybe why that this is the last regular appearance of Carla Gugino (Ashley) for the show. Even to me, the chemistry of the two did not cause of excitement and the office conflict being so much more interesting. This episode just was not that interesting.
