In this series, Spider-Man's biggest fan is a little girl named Maria Taina Elizando (who prefers to be called Taina, her mom only calls her Maria). In the original comic story "The Kid Who Collects Spider-Man" from "The Amazing Spider-Man" (Vol. 1) #238, his biggest fan was a red-headed boy Tim (who prefers to be called Timmy).
Peter Parker deciding it would be best to give up being Spider-Man is inspired by the story "Spider-Man No More" from "The Amazing Spider-Man" (Vol. 1) #50.
This is the first episode to go into full detail on Spider-Man's origin. It utilizes the origin flashback scenes from Neogenic Nightmare Chapter 1: The Insidious Six (1995) and The Menace of Mysterio (1995). The shows creative team were asked not to do an origin episode due to the development of a live-action Spider-Man movie written and directed by James Cameron. However like the comic, his origin is recapped in the original "The Kid Who Collects Spider-Man" story from "The Amazing Spider-Man" (Vol. 1) #248 which was first seen in "Amazing Fantasy" (Vol. 1) #15.
