Whistler, Blade's mentor, did not appear in the comics and was originally created for this series. The character has never appeared in the comics by Marvel, but actually went on to appear in the Blade (1998) movie which was released two years later. Story Editor/Producer John Semper said Avi Arad always stole scripts from his desk and believes that, if Blade wasn't used in this series, he would have never appeared in a movie.
One of the kids picking on the adolescent Blade in the flashback is wearing the same green and blue shirt Peter Parker wore during Season 1.
This is the first appearance of Blade the Vampire Hunter outside of the comics.

Blade's sword is energized with a glowing green color. This was done to please Broadcast Standards & Practices.
