At the River's Edge

It was nice to find out more about the history of Boston. Just where the well heeled lived as the swamp was cleared and the brownstones were built.

Spenser witnesses the death of a young woman. The killer then shoots himself rather than be taken alive.

Spenser is hired by the dead woman's younger sister Marcella Harrington who is nearly 13 but the family is very rich. Although Spenser learns that Marcella and her older sister lived on their own in their dad's mansion.

Reverend Bobby Freemont is the common link. The victim was known to him and the killer was part of a criminal rehabilitation program his ministry operated.

Spenser soon discovers that Freemont has some powerful people behind him. He is primed for high political office.

Obviously the producers taken on the right wing televangelists that became very popular back in the 1980s. Freemont seems to be based on the likes of Jim Bakker and Jerry Falwell.

John Davidson who is the son of a real life preacher is very good as the troubled Freemont. However as a mystery it's weak as the brains behind the deaths was rather obvious.

I like spenser and hawk and robert parker but this episode is way off base ... i suppose that could be accredited to john davidson as the evangelist preacher ... this episode was a total waste of time
