Special Branch to the rescue, again!

Special Branch – Blueprint for Murder – 1973 In this episode, we have the Special Branch boys assigned to protect, Kenneth J. Warren, a South African billionaire.

The visit was to be a low-key event but someone leaked the man's itinerary. The usual threats are quickly forthcoming.

The Special Branch types hit all the anti apartheid groups to warn them to behave. This of course just stirs the pot.

Inspectors George Sewell, Patrick Mower and Sgt. Roger Rowland draw the detail. The three, along with Warren's own security, keep a close eye on the businessman as Warren does the party circuit.

It seems the man is simply here to tip a few and play some golf. This of course annoys the Detectives no end. This ends quickly when they get a tip from an informant in one of the anti South African groups.

There is a hit out on Warren. The boys sift through the info and come up with a possible assassin. The man is Alex Scott. Scott is a South African miner whose brother had been killed by Warren's security forces at a diamond mine.

Scott, who has just gotten out of prison in the UK, has dropped off the radar. All the stops are pulled in the search for Scott. He is soon tracked down to a rooming house near where Warren is staying.

Sewell and Mower boot in the door, but find no Scott. They do however find an empty rifle case. Back in the car and off to where Warren is having a round of golf. Sewell radios Rowland that Scott could be at the golf club already.

Rowland does a quick scan of the tree line. He spots some movement and runs toward it with revolver in hand. Scott pops up from the trees and fires several rounds. Rowland goes down with a bullet in his shoulder. One of Warren's men then steps up and shoots Scott, killing him.

Then, Arne Gordon, Warren's assistant, grabs the fallen Rowland's gun and makes to shoot Warren. Sewell and Mower arrive just in time to plug Gordon. It seems the man was disgruntled with the way Warren treated him. He was the man who supplied Scott with money and the rifle.

Sewell and Mower watch as Rowland is taken away in an ambulance. Warren now offers Sewell a job, which he refuses.

Great series. (color)
