Jessica: Dutch, tell me: did you really kill a man?
Dutch: Yeah.
Jessica: Dead? You shot him dead?
Dutch: That's usually what happens in a successful killing.
Jessica: Of course.
Dutch: You see, what happened is that when I got out of the Navy, I borrowed some money to go into business. The banks all turned me down for a loan, so I went to a local loan company. Episode 35 begins with Dutch asking Jessica for her blessing to run off with Eunice, and he explains how he killed in self defense a man who was trying to extort money from him,so he convinced him not to by shooting him(trouble was,the president of the "loan company" was the corrupt chief of police).Still amnesiac and confused,Chester disappears, followed by The Major, who joined in the search using his stuffed dog Sigmund, who led him "down to the river and wouldn't budge." Deputy Bobby Gilmore(Harrison Page)is called in to look for Chester, who goes under the name Marlene Dietrich, also Gloria Swanson, also Gunga Din.Benson recognizes the deputy as "The Chicken," the biggest coward in his old neighborhood("now you're a cop, that sure makes me feels secure!")advising him to take his time finding Chester,as the Tate household is a zoo(Jessica refers to the cop as Deputy Chicken).Burt tries, but fails,to end his affair with Sally, who then calls a mysterious person on the phone to report "it's working.Give me a few more weeks,he'll be a broken man." Danny and Elaine wonder if their constant lovemaking is normal, but their hard-won bliss is interrupted when two masked assailants kidnap Elaine.
