Storyline

While hiding the spaceship key in the farm's storm cellar, Martha Kent breathes some unknown meteor-rock spores and immediately gets ill. She is sent to Smallville Medical Center under the care of Dr. Helen Bryce, and the results of her blood tests are sent to the Disease Control Agency (DCA). Because DCA agents are coming to inspect the farm and put it under quarantine, Clark and Pete hurry to move the spaceship. Clark inhales some of the spores and also gets sick, weakening him. The DCA agents find the key, so Jonathan Kent must retrieve it from a military base, expecting a miracle to save the lives of Martha and Clark. With Clark having lost his powers, Helen takes a sample of his blood for examination, and begins to suspect Clark's secret. Meanwhile, Lex fears losing Helen when she gets an offer to leave Smallville to study medicine at a prestigious hospital on the East Coast. Lex also finds out about Clark's condition and secretly takes Helen's medical file on him. Written by Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Quotes

Clark Kent: [after noticing how distant Chloe was acting towards him] Is Chloe ok?
Lana Lang: What happened to you really affected her... me too. It was really hard seeing you sick. Guess I somehow always thought of you as invincible.
Clark Kent: Now you think I'm just human.
Lana Lang: I guess that's my way of saying that you mean a lot to me, Clark. And I know it's not that eloquent...
[watching Chloe out of the corner of her eye, and Chloe sees Clark and Lana talking]
Lana Lang: ... but I guess some people are just better with words than others.

Going down with Sickness
27 September 2007 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

The surprise of this show is the demonstration of what the ship of Krypton can do- a surprise that is indeed pleasing.

Spores from the mysterious green substance in town cause Martha Kent to get extremely sick, prompting a government branch to quarantine and search the Kent household. This forces Clark and Pete to hide the ship as quickly as possible. In addition, Clark later inhales some of the same spores. As a result, doctors want him to go to Smallville Hospital and receive blood tests. This cannot happen because no one, particularly Lex lover Helen Bryce, can discover the different alien features found in the blood of Clark.

Temporary despair and risk highlight this intriguing episode.
