An exciting development meant for the overall story arc of season four begins in this episode.
Clark, contrary to his father's beliefs, tries out for the football team. Obviously, he is great. Meanwhile, a girl named Abigail undergoes kryptonite-assisted plastic surgery to remove her horribly mangled acne face to become a stunning, beautiful girl for her last year in high school. Lois takes on her first-ever story from Chloe to investigate how this miraculously happened to Abigail, when she runs into the beauty-obsessed mother.
This episode is solid. No spectacular action sequences, but some funny moments and some interesting story lines develop here, including the fact that Jason Teague, Lana's boyfriend from Paris, has moved to Smallville to be with her, and is an assistant coach for the football team. There's a great line from Lois about Abigail getting plastic surgery: "Isn't she only 17? Isn't that kinda like taking the cookies out of the oven before they are fully baked?" Though her character has improved the last two seasons, I may not like the Lois character overall in this show, but the writers do give her some pretty humorous lines from time to time.
