A poor end to the series
markymark7012 October 2007
Warning: Spoilers
The return of an old Nemesis - Doctor Dolenz - from episode "Day of the Robot" is the main storyline here for the final episode of series one of the Six Million Dollar Man.

Not much sense in this one to be honest - it seems it was a way of working in a bit of horse riding for Lee Majors (a kickback to his time in the The Big Valley). Doctor Dolenz and his backer - Mr. Rossi - "observe" Steve over the course of a few weeks before trying to capture him, examine him and use him as a blueprint for an army of bionic robots that they plan to build. You just gotta love these plots? Steve goes to an old friend's ranch for some much needed R&R and whilst there befriends a pretty ranch girl. It is not too much of a stretch to see that the actress never made it very far in TV or cinema - she is no Streep that's for sure. Anyway, a few scrapes and an escape later, Steve finishes the season walking side by side his old buddy Oscar.

A poor end to an up and down season to be honest. Some good episodes and some poor ones mixed in. With Steve's bionics and super-agent-like job, the possibilities are endless for what he could get up to in his adventures. There is no stopping this guy and he has literally been all over the world - and space for that matter.

Series 1 was enjoyable fare and just about did enough for me to purchase a series 2 boxset - but only if it is at a knockdown price.

Run, Steve, Run
coltras351 September 2023
When a crime syndicate and a robot creator conspire to build a team of bionic robot criminals to steal gold from Fort Knox, the robot inventor uses Steve as the model so he can build something superior by testing him with knowing, but Steve senses the accidents aren't accidents, and goes on vacation, and waits for them to make the move. After some attempts on putting his skill set to the test, they kidnap Steve in order to learn how his bionic limbs work.

Fair episode with flashbacks of previous villainous encounters - Steve is trying to figure out who is trying to kill him - but things get better when he heads over to the yonder, to a ranch and takes to riding with a pretty cowgirl. Lee Majors looks like he enjoyed this episode as it reminded him of his Big Valley Days. It's not a striking episode, but it's ok, and ends with a good finale.

Warning: Spoilers
Several years ago, I bought the S1 DVD set (kids, ask your parents) of "The Six Million Dollar Man". Thus far I've only watched the pilot movie and a handful of the episodes, but I got a random itch to dive back in and so I pulled the set out and searched for an episode that sounded promising. IMBd's thumbnail described "Run, Steve, run" as "infamous robot maker has been hired to build a team of robots to rob Fort Knox.". Sold! So what if it's the lowest rated episode from season 1, right? I shoulda listened.

"Run, Steve, run" calls back to the much better "Day of the Robot", with that episode's Dr. Dolenz returning here. World building! But the promise of the nefarious Doctor and his plans to build a team of robots charged with robbing Fort Knox is not fulfilled. Instead we get Steve on vacation at a friend's ranch while Dolenz and his team scout Steve from afar, trying to assess his abilities before they kidnap him. 'Cuz, you know you couldn't do that by taking him apart or anything.

A good %10-15 of this episode consists of flashbacks to previous episodes, and the rest involve Steve and a... romance? With a young woman who works on the ranch. She may be the niece of Steve's friend, I can't remember. And it was only an hour ago. But I do remember the performance of the young actress, and it is quite possibly the worst that I've ever seen this side of a grade school play. Forget Bigfoot, Steve's greatest foe thus far is acting against Melissa Greene.

There is absolutely nothing redeeming about "Run, Steve, run". Take a cue from the title and stay far away.

Flashbacks

Steve Austin(Lee Majors) is the target of research and retribution by the return of robot(android!) maker Dr. Chester Dolenz(Henry Jones again, from 'Day Of The Robot') who has a new criminal backer(played by George Murdoch) who wants Dolenz to build him bionic robots so that he can rob Fort Knox, but they can do nothing but watch Steve vacation at a ranch in Utah with an old friend(played by Noah Beery) until skeptical Oscar Goldman(Richard Anderson) starts to believe the threat is real. Poor episode is a real waste of time, both mundane and repetitive, containing three different scenes of flashback footage involving previous foes!
