Trivia

This episode is of course based on the actual crippled-spacecraft event from Apollo 13; during Steve and Kelly's second spacewalk, the footage even includes an actual b&w photo of A13's damaged service-module, showing the missing blasted-out side-panels and the exposed internal components. Goofs

Although the explosion happened in the command module, the Athena One service module appears to have the exact same damage as Apollo 13's service module. This appears to be re-used footage from that actual space flight. See more »

Quotes

Major Kelly Wood: How are you?
Col. Steve Austin: [pause] I'm fine.
Major Kelly Wood: Lying to a nurse and a fellow pilot is a violation of the rules. But when you are fine, I know a place in Houston that serves a really fantastic diner. Reasonable too.
Col. Steve Austin: Where is this restaurant?
Major Kelly Wood: My place.

Lady Astronaut
21 May 2015 | by See all my reviews

Lee Major's real-life wife Farrah Fawcett guest stars as Major Kelly Wood, whom Steve Austin is reluctantly training to make her maiden outer space flight, making her the first woman American astronaut. Despite some friction, they form a grudging respect, and Steve must take quick action when her flight runs into trouble after an unexpected explosion injures her male co-pilot, but Austin discovers that his bionics seem to be malfunctioning in space, leaving Kelly the one to bring them back home... Farrah Fawcett is good here, and clearly well cast, with a smart story and efficient direction making this one of the better early episodes.
