Michael John Piper finally passes away, depressed and delirious, after a long battle with cancer, and his "psychic" widow sticks around Fisher & Sons to discuss his funeral arrangements with him. She also predicts that one of the brothers will have a child, and perplexedly tells Nate she doesn't sense Nathaniel - though only because the funeral home is crowded so not everyone can be sensed. Nate is also baffled by Brenda's so-called ebb in sexual activity, especially when learning even Rico, with a family of four, has an extremely strong pattern of one. He does get some good news, though - at his first funeral-directors' meeting he enthusiastically declares war on Kroehner's and is well-received by all present. Ruth begins attending The Plan seminar when Robbie invites her, and alternates between resisting their hate-the-world policy and taking a hard look at her actual family relationships, meaning she mostly insults her kids. Claire soon has more to worry about than cutting remarks,... Written by

Ruth Fisher: I joined "The Plan".
Claire Fisher: Isn't that like a cult or something?
Nate Fisher: No, it's one of those '70s self-discovery clubs that yell at you and don't let you go to the bathroom for 12 hours, right?
Ruth Fisher: [takes out yogurt cup] I think this will do. All right, I'm leaving you without dinner. I'll be back really late.
Claire Fisher: This whole concept of Mom self-actualizing is making me nauseous.
Nate Fisher: You're sure it's that and not the concept of Mom pissing in a plastic jar?

User Reviews

Emotional, outstanding performances, one of the best of entire series.
16 February 2011 | by See all my reviews

The Plan reminds us why we love Six Feet Under so much. It is one of the best episodes of all series.

Ruth is the main character of this episode, i think. She joins the club 'The Plan' where she re-thinks about her life. She starts to hide from it but eventually she says everything she thinks about her family and friends and realizes that is what she had to do.

Gabe calls Claire with a scared voice wanting her to pick him up from somewhere but after he shots a man who hitting on Claire. Claire is shocked and tells Gabe to go and get his gun. Lauren Ambrose's perform is amazing in that scene she really shows the fear.

We see the first seeds of what Brenda is going to be in this season after she gets bored of life and sex. She discovers something interesting.

Nathaniel's ghost comes back, and we realize again he was a good guy. His talk with David is very emotional.

My point to The Plan is 10. And i'm saying again whoever didn't watch this show misses a lot.
