Storyline

Following the demise of 'The Springfield Shopper' 's restaurant critic,Homer gets the job, though he is so illiterate he has to dictate his reviews to Lisa. They are all positively glowing and the other critics suggest he write adverse reviews for a change, which he does. As a result the restauranteurs all plot to give him his come-uppance at the Springfield Food Fair, which they surely do. Written by don @ minifie-1

Trivia

Although the full frontal nude scene of Bart in the Simpsons film caused much controversy, this episode was the first instance of a Simpsons character's uncensored genitalia being shown. When Homer looks up the front page of the newspaper from the day he was born, the photo of him is clearly anatomically correct. See more »

Goofs

When Homer is writing his first review, Marge tells him there is no "e" on the typewriter, but when the editor reads his review he says that Homer used words as "pasghetti" and "screw Flanders", meaning that he did use the "e". See more »

Homer: Well here we are kids... the zoo.
Bart Simpson: That's great dad, except you were supposed to take us to the newspaper.

Guess who's coming to dinner
19 July 2017 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

I always like Lisa and Homer centred episodes, and this is a good example.

This 11th series of 'The Simpsons' has really started well, and this episode is full of great visual and verbal jokes throughout.

Homer is at the centre again, and this proves again that the shows focus has moved away from Bart, who was the focus in the earlier years.

With a good plot, some nice winks to other films/TV shows and some nice guest voices this is a very good episode.
