Storyline

After discovering that she is a good singer the family persuades Lisa to enter a junior 'American Idol' competition, in which she does well, singing a song written for her by Homer, who becomes her manager. They become very successful, making it to the finals but here they have a falling out, Lisa sacking Homer, who switches camps to managing popular favourite Johnny Rainbow. On stage Lisa still sings the praises of her father. Surely he will not let her down... Written by don @ minifie-1

Homer Simpson: Don't worry, honey. The song I wrote for you is so schmaltzy, it'll make "Moon River" sound like a farting orangutan.

A Fun, Music Filled Episode,
9 August 2016 | by (Ireland) – See all my reviews

A Star is Torn is a great Simpsons episode with a well written plot and plenty of funny scenes. It's a great episode in terms of further establishing Homer and Lisa's relationship, I think the dynamics between them are some of the best on the show. Seeing Homer work as her manager in order to build a singing career for his daughter was a lot of fun.

However, it did feel a little underwhelming, as if they did not stretch the story out as much as they could have. The talent show could have been established more, maybe even getting guest appearances from real life judges. The highlight, for me, was the songs, there are many great ones, particularly Lisa's one about Springfield, there is also a beautiful rendition of Hush Little Baby by Fantasia Barrino. Sweet and fun at the same time, A Star is Torn is certainly not a highlight of the sixteenth season, but it's a very enjoyable episode.

Lisa enters a talent competition and recruits Homer to help her make it to the top, but he soon becomes caught up in her fame.
