This salute to the history of gold records is an energetic trip down memory lane of records that sold more than a million copies from the 1920's on up, starting with Rudy Valley and heading to the current day, roasting Vallee's rival Bing through the presence of his son, Gary Crosby. Some of the current artists I had never heard of, but that's what makes these TV shows fascinating because they introduce interested modern audiences to obscure performers whose songs they may recognize but are not familiar to them by name. However, names like Frankie Laine and The Andrews Sisters have lived on, with a very seductive dance number done to "Jezebel", and a great medley of songs by The Andrews Sisters, reuniting as they were spread out all over the country. The only fail is the comedy sketch of Mack and Moran which Eddie "Rochester" Anderson participates in. It's not only the fact that it's very dated humor, somewhat overloaded with stereotypes, but there's not even a funny moment in it. TV's greatest sidekick of the 1950's deserved a lot better. The songs for the most part are easy going, and coming as rock and roll was just beginning to be heard, this is most likely more for the mom and pop set of the time, but certainly a lot of these songs remain timeless.
