IMDbTV Pick: Showtime's "Penny Dreadful"

The subtle trick Showtime's "Penny Dreadful is that it is far less about the blood, gore and the specter of gruesome death than the sharp pain and exhilarating pleasure of living, and the terror of feeling alone even in close company. Read our review in the May Picks section.

Storyline

When local resident Lillian Tyler's husband dies Frank suggests he impersonate him to keep her benefits but CCTV footage of drug-dealing Bernie being shot scotches that and, worse, his accidental killer is Carl so once more the family rally to save one of their own from arrest. Kash stands for the local council, defeating corrupt opponent Bernie Creme when the latter gives a racist outburst in the Jockey, where Frank and Sheila have 'contrived' to win a holiday in the raffle. Steve returns and Fiona goes off with him, leaving a devastated Craig to be comforted by Karen. Written by don @ minifie-1
