- Aidan and Carrie have exchanged keys to each other's apartment.
Carrie's laptop crashes, and when Aidan tries to help, she pushes him away. Carrie takes her laptop to tech support Dmitri (Aasif Mandvi) at Tekserve. Apparently, Carrie has never backed up her work, ever.
Aidan gets Carrie a new apple MacBook and a zip drive for her to start backing up her work. Carrie yells at Aidan that she is still waiting to hear back from her old one. Aidan is angry at being jerked around by Carrie and says she is not making him a part of her life but expecting everything in return from him. Aidan returns her keys. Tech support can't recover anything from the laptop.
Miranda's mother dies unexpectedly (after a heart attack). Miranda had traveled to meet her after the heart attack. She was stable in the hospital, and the family was asked to go home to get some rest. In the night, the hospital called to say that she was crashing, and by the time the family reached the hospital, Miranda's mother had passed away. She was alone when she died. Miranda informs Carrie. Carrie informs Samantha and Charlotte over breakfast.
Miranda suddenly realizes that she will never fight with her mom again and cries. She was trying a new bra at the lingerie store (she needed a black bra for her black dress), when the maternal salesperson Lucille (Mary Pat Gleason) comes over and hands over the right size to Miranda. Lucille then enters the changing room to actually see Miranda, to which Miranda objects. Miranda starts insulting Lucille, but then breaks down that her mother just died. Lucille gives Miranda the motherly hug she needs. Lucille was right about the bra size. Miranda is a 34B and not a 36A.
Charlotte becomes the "Martha Stewart of funerals". She organizes the flowers sent to Miranda and plans to attend the funeral with Samantha and Carrie. Charlotte is very specific about the instructions. The covering sheet on the fruit basket has to be transparent and the ribbon has to be just the right amount of blue. The flowers have to be all white, with only lilies and Phalaenopsis. Samantha does not deal well with the news. She doesn't call Miranda after she gets the news from Carrie and is upset when Charlotte tells her that they are going to attend Miranda's mother's funeral.
Samantha finds a booklet on 1001 sexual positions (she bought it from a corner guy for $1.5) and hires a wrestling coach Nick from NYU to help her achieve each one of them.
Samantha "loses" her orgasm when she tries to have sex post hearing about Miranda's mom's death. Samantha wears the wrestler down in 2 hours. She is determined to give herself an orgasm with sex toys, even if it takes all day. Carrie calls Aidan to apologize and invites him to Philadelphia.
The girls travel to Philadelphia to attend Miranda's mom's funeral. At the funeral, Miranda's family is more upset by Miranda's single status. Samantha looks at Miranda and cries for her at the funeral. She gets the release she needed.
