The scene where Elaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) rubbed George's (Jason Alexander) face in her breasts was not in the script.
Larry David has a cameo in this episode as the voice of an office worker who asks Elaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) if she's finished with the manuscript, while addressing her as "nip."
This story line was inspired by true events. Writer Marc Jaffe received a similar Christmas card from a male friend whose sexual organs were accidentally on display.
The line "If we pick, do we not bleed?" is a nod to the line "If you prick us, do we not bleed?" from Act III, scene i of William Shakespeare's "The Merchant of Venice," while the line "I am not an animal" is from "The Elephant Man."
It was originally planned to title this episode "The Nipple" but Larry David thought that would pose problems in that it would be too sexually explicit for network television.
