Storyline

Kramer and Newman begin preliminary planning on elaborate parties for New Year's Eve 1999, but separate over whether or not Jerry should be included. George gets a job offer with the Mets and devises creative ways to get fired from the Yankees. Jerry dates a girl named Valerie who uses her speed dial as a way of measuring relationships. But when Jerry takes over the top spot, Valerie's step mother steps in demanding that her spot be put back in place. Meanwhile, Elaine gets in a feud with the owner of a Mayan clothing store when she's completely ignored. Written by halo1k

Trivia

It was originally intended to end this episode with showing the coffee shop under water in the year 2000. But that idea was discarded due to time and budget constraints. See more »

Goofs

Jerry tells Newman that he has set his party "a year too late." Newman cringes. All of the characters know that the celebration is related to the calendar turning from 1999 to 2000, similar to an odometer flipping, and that 12/31/1999 will be THE big night. Newman knows that his party is set for 1999 (it was combined with Kramer's party, which had been established, at the time that Kramer was bringing supplies into Jerry's apartment, as 2.5 years in the future, from the air date of May 1997), thus, there is no reason for Newman to feel bad. He has the right night. Jerry is wrong to imply that the party will be an empty exercise. See more »

Quotes

Jerry Seinfeld: By the way, Newman, when you booked the hotel, did you remember to book it for the millennium new year?
Newman: As a matter of fact, I did.
Jerry Seinfeld: Well that's funny because as everyone knows that there's no year zero, the millennium doesn't begin until 2001. Which would make your party one year late. And thus, quite lame. Oh!
Newman: Cheap.
