- After George breaks up with his girlfriend, Jerry decides that he wants to see her.
- George has gone cold on his latest girlfriend, Marlene, but he hates breaking up and is tied up in knots at the prospect. Jerry encourages him to just do it quickly, just like taking off a band-aid. George finally works up the gumption to do it but forgets a few books at her apartment and asks Jerry to get them for him. Soon Jerry is under Marlene's spell, wanting her and wanting to break up with her at the same time. Elaine meanwhile is growing increasingly annoyed with one of her neighbors who won't acknowledge her when they pass each other in the building.—garykmcd

- George (Jason Alexander) decides he wants to break up with his girlfriend Marlene (Tracy Kolis), whose tendency to drag out conversations and phone messages irritates him to no end. She calls George first to ask him out on dates, she even said I Love You to George and backed him into a corner. She even seduced George by making the first move. She has introduced George to all her friends. After an emotional split, he realizes he has left some books in her apartment. Jerry (Jerry Seinfeld) tries to convince George that he does not need the books, as he has already read them, but George is nevertheless able to persuade Jerry to get them for him.
To retrieve the books, Jerry decides to go on a date with Marlene, during which she tells him that she and Jerry can still be friends, despite her recent break-up. Jerry and Marlene start dating; but, after a while, Jerry finds her just as annoying as George did. They have been on 3 lunches and a movie, and she never stops calling. She leaves messages where she uses up the whole machine. There is no breaks in her conversation, so Jerry cant ever put the phone down. He wants to break up with her but is unable to because she has a "psycho-sexual" hold on him. Jerry hasn't told George that he is having a sexual relationship with Marlene.
Meanwhile Kramer wants Jerry to buy his fruit at Joe's which is 3 blocks over from the supermarket. Kramer says that the fruit is half price from that at the supermarket and if it is bad, he takes it right back. Jerry says he cannot push the shopping cart for 3 blocks, and he doesn't even buy fruit, since the fruit are a mystery going in. Jerry gets fruit from the supermarket, and it is not as good as the one from Joe's.
Meanwhile Elaine is having trouble with a family guy who lives in her building. They used to be good friends and always chatted when they crossed each other. With time, the chats got reduced to friendly verbal hellos, and then the hellos got reduced to a smiling nod when they crossed each other, and then one day the nods also stopped. Elaine now feels that there is an intense animosity between them, and it is based on nothing. George tells Elaine to confront the guy. Elaine confronts guy and tells him that she is aware of his antics and that he is deliberately ignoring her. Jerry is inspired by Elaine to confront George and tell him that Jerry is dating Marlene.
Jerry is unable to decide whether or not to tell George he is dating Marlene, but Jerry's ex-girlfriend Elaine Benes (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) eventually convinces him that he should. After being informed, George informs Jerry he has no problem with him dating Marlene. The following night, Jerry asks Marlene to come to his apartment, but she tells him that it might be better not to date him anymore. Jerry asks her why, to which she replies that she did not think his stand-up comedy act was funny, and that she could not date someone if she did not respect what they did.
