Tell me if one sitcom but Seinfeld during all these years reached this level of genius
zfiany2 July 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I just love the twists of events they use in this show and they are as good in this episode as in all the others. Jerry finds a fungus cream in his girlfriend's cabinet and gives it to Elaine because her boyfriend is a podiatrist. Jerry also makes fun of podiatrists in this episode saying that they are not real doctors and that George can become one if he goes to podiatry school. Meanwhile, Kramer meets a nun and dumps her later because she decides to forsake religion for his love! Jerry finds out that the cream is for his girlfriend's cat and Elaine's boyfriend finds the cream in her cabinet.

Of course George who is the star of this episode as in all other episodes decides to convert to Latvian orthodox for a lady.

George Costanza: You know, in the cab on the way over here, I actually thought about converting. Jerry: To Latvian Orthodox? George Costanza: Yeah, why not, what do I care... Jerry: Ya know, it's not like changing toothpastes. Elaine: I think it would be romantic. George Costanza: Really? Elaine: Yeah, it's like Edward the Eighth abdicating the throne and marrying Mrs. Simpson. Ooh. George Costanza: King Edward. (snapping fingers) George Costanza: Like King Edward, Jerry! Jerry: Yeah well King Edward didn't live in Queens with Frank and Estelle Costanza.

I give this episode 9 Kavorkas!!

Season 5 of Seinfeld is widely considered the best season of all with this episode and the next 4 in a row up the the Marine Biologist showing why. George doing everything he can for a woman and not getting her in the end and the uncovering of Kramer's real reason why women are so attracted to him just makes this as Bania would say Gold! (By the way if any sitcom goes past 7 seasons you'll find just about every 4 and 5 seasons are always their best as well-just some personal insights of mine)

"Brother Costanza will take the vow of silence."

Season 5, Episode 11, "The Conversion" "The Conversion" isn't one of the strongest or most consistent episodes in Seinfeld's fifth season, but it is one of the funniest. George's and Kramer's story lines don't make an ounce of sense, but they're so funny that you just can't resist. Michael Richards and Jason Alexander both deliver side-splittingly hilarious performances.

Jerry and Elaine are far less impressive, their stories interact but not in a very interesting way, and they feel more like season 2 material. That stops the episode short of being truly hilarious all the way, but it still has its share of classic moments.

Astonishing Responses

Warning: Spoilers
Oh my gosh. There's no such thing as the Latvian Orthodox Church. How can you use it in the episode. I shouldn't need to point out that it merely enhances the stupidity of George; that he would be willing to convert to an alien religion just to get a girl. Also, Kramer's amazing connection to women comes to the fore. He meets a novice and she immediately falls for him. Great scenes involve George's family and the great Jerry Stiller. There is a great bit with TV Guide. As a Boy Scout, I sold magazines, so I saddled my family with a year's subscription to TV Guide. It turns out that George's father is a collector. Funny stuff.

Jerry was snooping.

March 17th of the 2023rd

What was this episode about?: George wants to convert to a silly club for a girl.

Kramer is makes a nun feel tingly and fall for him.

Elaine dates a podiatrist...

Jerry is obsessed with a medicine tube.

Story and production: An alright episode. The religion stuff gave it a fuzzy feeling.

Highlight: Kramer saying Power... George saying Kramah...lobstah..

Laugh Meter: 5

Girlfriend attractiveness level: Jerry's girl a 9 but she has no ass. George's girl is a 7.

What can be learned?: stay away from cults. And just live a life.

Verdict: No squirrels were harmed in this episode.

The Lobster
safenoe7 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Nearly two decades before The Lobster was released (directed and co-produced by Yorgos Lanthimos), the lobster is at the focus of the beginning of The Conversion, and we see how George wants to convert to the Latvian Orthodox Church, and he will go to any lengths to get his girlfriend played by Jana Marie Hupp. Anyway, I sometimes wonder what happens to the guest stars of Seinfeld and whether they continued acting careers.

Anyway, fungus is also at the center of this episode, and Kramer is a magnet to the women and he is faced with a dilemma.

I'm enjoying re-watching Seinfeld, having first watched it in the 90s when it debuted.

Ridiculous

Firstly there is no such thing of latvian orthodox, just russian orthodox. Secondly, generalizing that latvians are orthodox is like saying indians that were native to the americas are christian. If the production team had read even a little bit about latvians, they would know that this series was spit in the face for our history.
