Okay, I've been getting into this show and while coming across my least favourite episode I've also come across my favourite in the episode "World Without Alex" I mean this really does stamp why I enjoy watching this show down to the ground.
The plot is that, as usual Alex doesn't really feel appreciated by the people around her. Annie has a visit from MIT and Alex goes down to the mall to buy her mother a birthday gift as it's just around the corner. Alex wants to use a bike but can't because the MIT guy has it immovable from between the garage door and his car. Alex uses her powers and things go way out of hand. She decides after completely ruining Annie's chances of going into MIT that she runs away and sleeps on a park bench wishing to a shooting star that she never existed.
The next day her wish actually comes true (don't question it when they already established ghosts in their Halloween episode!). Everyone has no idea who Alex is and her family went completely off the rails since her mother "mysteriously vanished" having Annie be a failing student and her father being a delivery boy for the plant.
If there was a cop-out it would have to be it's predictability. I mean we know it's a dream sequence episode (although to be fair it didn't make me realize it 5 seconds in like that other dream episode) and the second Annie said her mother disappeared mysteriously, it kind of goes without saying she was doused with GC-161 instead of Alex and was experimented on.
Aside from that I really enjoyed this. I mean it doesn't staple how this show needs this character as good as the Buffy episode The Wish but it does a pretty fine job in how all the major cast needs Alex in their lives. It really does get interesting to see these characters interact with each other when they have polar opposite personalities to what they had. Just as a side note Larisa Oleynik is actually a pretty decent actress, which shows in this episode.
So this episode was a lot of fun for me to watch. If there is a better episode of Alex Mack out there then I am in for a lot more reviews of this show because of how fun it is to see these characters interact with each other even though I have seen it about a hundred times. If you like this show, check this one out.
