- After gaining advance knowledge of volcanic attack, SeaQuest needs to convince treasure hunters to cease excavations, or die trying.
- An experimental probe that was shot into a volcano and was recovered as it rode the lava spill out into the ocean, gives meteriological information about earthquakes and erruptions. Guest star, Roscoe Brown, plays Dr. Raleigh Young, its architect. He joins the Seaquest in the recovery and tests of impending eruptions.
At an island where they determine the next eruption will occur, they discover a group of people digging for lost treasure of the right hand mate and assisant to Black Beard the pirate. With the prototype probe being classified top secret, they are not able to inform the pirate treasure hunters why they are in danger. The treasure hunters are suspicious of the Seaquest personnel. They fear their treasure will be uncovered by competitors and they will lose millions after investing time and energy for years into their search. One of the treasure seekers goes crazy and destroys the Seaquest launch stranding them all on the island with the impending eruption. The good Dr. Young tells the leader of the treasure hunters why they are in danger, going against his promise to keep the classified probe, secret. The race is on to devise a means to save the crew stranded on the island. Dr. Westphalen saves the day by her unauthorized use of Seaquest's equipment. Although the story title talks about greed for a pirate's dream, the archeological hunters are not actually greedy, but determined. With the exception of the one who goes crazy, they are methodical and resourceful people, determined to finish what they have started and invested their energies in, until they learn a valid reason why they should leave the island.
