Very watchable.

Trevor Howard plays Detective Inspector George Mavor, a gruff, heavy drinking, old school Detective, close to his retirement. After testing positive for drink driving he bargains the dismissal of the charges to take on a case of murders, being carried out by Easterman. The case has a personal feel, and Easterman has a definite grudge against Mavor.

Trevor Howard was a truly prolific actor, extremely charismatic, with a vast talent, he certainly adds a gravitas to the part, making what's a pretty good drama into something quite engaging. It's fairly well acted in general, but it all hangs on the brilliance of Trevor Howard.

It's an interesting snapshot into attitudes of the late 70's, things were certainly different back then. Quite an interesting storyline, it just lacks a little bit of menace that could have easily been picked up.

7/10 Worth seeing if only for Trevor Howard.
