Monkeying Around

Once again, the fifties must have been a rough time for some people. Barbara Hale and new husband, Hugh Beaumont (Della Street and Ward Cleaver, if you will) arrive at their new home in Florida. He is an animal biologist, working on a grant that pays his salary. She is scared to death of animals. When get to the house, she finds a chimpanzee named Terry is living there. She shrieks and cries with a raging phobia. Hugh has been practicing communicating with the ape and has had some success in getting Terry to express some of his own wishes. There is one time when I believe an unintended but of humor takes place. Beaumont asks the chimp what he would really like. He looks up, somewhat longingly, at the new wife--then he chooses a banana. Anyone for a Freudian analysis. Anyway, halfway through, a convict has waded his way through the swamp, having escaped prison. He holds them hostage and announces he will be killing them. That sets up the conclusion.
