- About turn! Reese is putting skin cream on her legs and mesmerizing Tom whom she is quietly putting the screws on, unsuspecting as he is. She pretends that she has had a fight with her Dad because he refuses to foot the bill for the marriage reception (knowing Edward, this might well be true in any case, but not clear from the storyline) and since it's going to be super-expensive, considers calling the ceremony off since they are already married. She's worth it (of course! her Daddy's loaded!) and since she is planning on sharing everything, too late for a pre-nup anyway, Tom ponies up, into the trap, to pay for the reception himself. One more thing, she has this romantic but challenging notion to abstain from sex before the marriage. Tom will have to sleep in the guest room. Reese giggles to herself as soon as she is alone. Peyton and. Nick gets passionate, but Deke's phone call interrupts them. As the executor of Martin Correli's estate, he has set the date for Nick's inheritance of it all - lock, stock and barrel, right down to the dirty socks in the hamper, as Nick puts it - for three month's time. A few snide comments from him, and Peyton is insulted for being suspected of being a gold-digger as well. "It's obvious money is important to you," as he reminds her about the escapade with the emerald (at the beginning of this season) and she is off in a huff, he can keep his apartment. Back at the Burton mansion, Edward has polished off an entire decanter trying to forget how easily Eleanor was swindled out of his family's jewels. He can't stand that trembling little lapdog Stella a moment longer. Eleanor insists that the whole incident got harmful Veronica out of the way, but Edward needs her as his only hope to clear his name re the Rita Winsler affair. In Miami, Veronica is selling off the jewels to a fence, she is facing 'early retirement and endless shopping sprees'. She keeps only the blood-red ruby ring, wishing to look swanky while doing all that shopping. Back at the riverboat, Cassie is performing "What's Love Got To Do With It" to an appreciative audience, including Bill Webber, who informs her that he knows her boyfriend better than she does, relating to her how he blames Sam for his sister Anita's death in the penitentiary. There is a petition by concerned citizens to recall Senator Edward Burton, and Lane, at the Savannah Weekly, writes the expose, but Eleanor is to go after this thorn in the Burton side. Cassie enlists Dean's help to find out more about Sam. Rejecting pizza peace offerings, Peyton leads Nick on a merry chase, but he continues rubbing Peyton's nose in her money-hungry ways. She has 'big eyes for a dollar' and 'would love a man with money just a little bit more'. But Peyton is confident towards Tom, she knows Nick is hot for her, and she can reel him in easily, 'Southern fried gold-digging piece of white trash' that she is. Tom whacks her, loving it when she talks dirty. Reese obtains another favor from the Gambling Licenses Commission, and the riverboat, standing to lose its gambling license as one of the owners - Tom - has a felony conviction, faces a dismal future, likened by Peyton to the Titanic, a gambling ship without a gambling license. Lane is to get promoted. The editor loves her hard-hitting expose so much, she is to become a permanent member of the staff. Dean has checked out Sam with Internal Affairs, and upon learning that Bill Webber, the man who had ruined his life in Chicago, is in town, Sam sets out after him. Inside Veronica's vacated apartment, Edward desperately searches for a clue as to her whereabouts. Redialing on her phone, leads him to a Bahamas spa resort hotel, and he speaks to the phone assistant, requesting to find out whether one Veronica Koslowski has checked in yet, but there is nobody there under that name. He describes her as having dark blonde hair, and most likely wearing lots of jewellery. A fax with her picture will be sent. Just then, Veronica arrived, signing in under the surname Hedges. Reese bears down on her target, intending for Tom to sign over his share of the riverboat in her name, they are going to be married in community of property anyway, so what does it matter...? It would solve 'the problem with the license' instantly, with Tom then no longer being an owner. Set-up! "You can thank me after the wedding." She grins quietly to herself, this is so easy. Sam reveals more about how Anita, how she faked being pregnant, he covered for her, but she took payoffs, and Cassie gets a clearer picture. The expensive catering has Tom reeling as he must choose between pheasant-under-glass and Maine lobster. He'd have to marry Reese just to break even, he wails to Peyton, but she advises him to throw some caviar in as well, for his tuxedo-clad butt will be waltzing down the aisle to a fortune. Meanwhile, in her own fortune-hunting quest, she sends flowers to herself, outclassing Nick's paltry-by-comparison effort to woo her back. Nick shamefully retrieves his offering while an amused Tom looks on. Veronica parades about in a skimpy bikini, and the assistant, who was no doubt bribed by Edward into keeping a sharp lookout, recognizes her from the faxed picture. Poor Lane, just as she gets her office, Hurricane Eleanor hurtles in, having bought out the Weekly, and settling scores with all of those who crossed her wrong. Lane once again gets fired. A confrontation between Sam and Bill, and Sam threatens to kill Bill if he comes near Cassie again. The hooks are out for Tom. Apparently, there's been a mistake, his name has been misspelt 'Tim Massock' on that crucial document that would give him all access to Reese's millions, and it will take a fortnight to clear up, but since there is s hurry with the riverboat's gambling license and that document is correct and just waiting to be signed... In effect, Tom signs his livelihood over to Reese. And Peyton can't even give him any consolation in the meantime, because she goes off to take Nick out of his misery. Veronica is being attended to on the massage table. The guy is slipped a $100 bill by Edward who takes over from him and has the little vixen by her neck. She is surprised to have been caught, but retaliates by letting Edward know that he was the one who broke her heart by throwing her out. Slapping him, causing pain, she has her regret, and they settle for a passionate bout of hate sex. After all, what does Edward have waiting for him back at home? Eleanor who heaps her affection on the 8-pound fluffball. Peyton gains entry to Nick's place by seducing the nerdy maintenance man, who is overawed by her. She learns from him, though, that Nick is out on a date. Bill pays a big guy in an eerie back alley to beat him up, and reports his assailant to the Savannah Police as detective Sam Lucas. In a luxurious candle-lit foam bath, Veronica reveals that even though the jewels are long-gone sold, she still has the original CD that could exonerate Edward from the Rita Winsler affair, and Edward is relieved. Nick arrives, is chided for having been with somebody else, but he proposes to Peyton, a big double wedding is upcoming, and she triumphantly goes to show off her 'Shock of Gibraltar' to her cohort. But, pouring champagne into two flutes, it is revealed that Nick's 'dalliance' was a meeting with Reese, both weddings are big set-ups.
Next week, second half of the big season finale, which turned out to be the final episode.
