Jim Belushi was fired after this episode. He would be rehired five weeks later after Harry Shearer quit the show.
In the book "Live from New York: An Uncensored History of Saturday Night Live" Dick Ebersol recounts that the entire staff was pretty exhausted when production on this show began, and the Wednesday night read-through of the proposed sketches was a disaster. After telling Ringo Starr and Barbara Bach not to worry about it, Ebersol told the writers and cast to take all of their best characters and write a show around them. Normally they would wait three or four shows before bringing back a recurring character, but because of the lack of good material, everything was fair game.
Rich Hall is completely absent from this show. According to him, he had developed three sketches that Ringo Starr really liked, but all three were cut after dress rehearsal.
This is the second episode not to have a "Weekend Update/Saturday Night News" segment.
