Assignment Two: Part 5

Steel still needs to know more about the soldier and again sees Tully as his way in.

This time with Sapphire in a state channelling the spirit of the schoolteacher who was in love with the soldier.

Steel learns of his name, Sam Pearce and he died after the Great war officially ended.

It looks like Sam and the others look beaten but whatever is possessing Sam is too strong. It places Sapphire in peril.

The acting plaudits goes to Joanna Lumley in this one as she not only plays the schoolteacher but has to get her country accent.

There is also a clue that these soldiers, pilots, civilians are angry about untimely deaths. Sam died after the war was officially over and it was a mistake.

I do think Episodes 4 and 5 could easily had been combined.

Decent, just a bit slow.

Sapphire takes up the role of Medium, and through her, Steel and Tully contact, someone who knows Sam, a teacher, who was in love with him.

We get to learn the tragic story about Sam, the reason he's so angry, and rightly so, the irony of an accidental death, having survived the dangers of The First World War, that really is cruel.

Once again it's nicely made and hugely atmospheric, finally we get to learn just who Sam Pearce is, and what happened, but I think this episode was maybe a little slow, again it feels as though the six episodes of the story could have perhaps been made into 4, some of it has been slow.

The best scene had to be where Steel watches The RAF officer checking in, that was quite a surreal moment.

Lumley's acting is a delight once again, her spiritual scenes were actually really good, nice versatility.

Pretty good, just a little slow, 6/10.
