Sixth season opener
19 November 2016 | by (Youngstown,Ohio) – See all my reviews

"The Hawaiian Connection" opened the sixth and final season, in the same location where THE BRADY BUNCH opened season four in 1972, syndicated in three parts, though the first two were originally broadcast in a one hour time slot. Fred is looking forward to attending his first junkman's convention in Hawaii, but Lamont laments that they don't have the resources to afford the trip. Meanwhile, jewel robbers Davis (Sheldon Leonard) and Freddy Wills (Greg Morris) are holed up in their Honolulu hotel room with beautiful moll Gladys (Barbara Rhoades), unable to unload their haul with every cop on the lookout. Wills remembers a junk man from his old L.A. neighborhood who should be stupid enough to provide the perfect pigeon to handle the goods, wonder who he was talking about? Two free tickets to the convention arrive by mail, the exasperated messenger (Theodore Wilson) expecting a nonexistent Sanford tip, and father and son board a plane for Honolulu, the familiar faces of battle axe Fritzi Burr (seventh of ten) and co-pilot Frank Nelson (third of six) a sure sign they might not make it! Once they're out of their $135 a day suite, Wills makes the diamond switch into their luggage (Greg Morris is backed by the theme from his previous series, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE). The fetching Barbara Rhoades sports a breathtaking bikini, James Gregory's Commander basically repeats his Inspector Luger role from BARNEY MILLER, and all the scenes of the authorities in action are accompanied by the HAWAII 5-0 musical theme.
