Fred likens the British singer's rendition of "I Didn't Care" to Moshe Dayan singing "When the Saints Go Marchin' In." Dayan (1915-81) was an iconic Israeli military commander and government leader, immediately recognizable by the black eyepatch he wore over his left eye.
Unlike a typical Gong Show episode, Chuck Barris does not do his usual shtick of comforting a contestant who was gonged and ask the judge who gonged him or her, "Why'd you do that?" He just moved on and forgot about that contestant. This may have been for time constraints or because the judges were not as high profile here as they are on an actual taping of the show.
