11/25/60: "Legacy for Lucia"
4 April 2015 | by (N Syracuse NY) – See all my reviews

The exotically beautiful Arlene (Martel) Sax plays an Italian woman who has come to sell her sole possession, the state of Oregon, to get enough money to buy her church a Madonna. It seems a soldier for Oregon factiously willed her the state. I assume she was a kid at the time, (Arlene was born 4/14/36), and not his bride. Anyway she innocently believes she owns the state, having no idea how big it is or what it is worth and shows up wanting to sell it. Tod and Buz are working in a lumber camp when she arrives and take an interest in her, as does their foreman, a childhood friend of the soldier, who takes her to the soldier's embittered father, who does own some land he's stubbornly refused for all this time to be harvested for timber. At first the old man, (Jay C. Flippen), thinks she's a gold-digger and wants nothing to do with her. He eventually softens up and Lucia improbably goes home with the money she needed.

The series was developing a reputation for re-using actors in episodes not too far separated. John Larch played the sheriff in "The Strengthening Angels" three weeks before and Arlene Sax would return in "The Newborn" later in the season.
