The Chicken Shirt - Roseanne answers what the Chicken Shirt means in the season 5 DVD Extras "Roseanne Answers the Fans' Top 10 Questions" (it's the 2nd question answered)

Quoting Roseanne "The chicken shirt, it was just the ugliest shirt I ever saw and we had this bet between us, the actors; if you show something really bad on TV it takes off. It was like another rebellious artistic statement, that it looks like art when it's on TV."

The first showing of the Chicken Shirt is in Season 2. See more »

Roseanne: [to David, who doesn't want Darlene to leave home] Yeah, but you know what they say, David. They say, ah, when you really love something you should, you know, make it go away or get rid of it, or whatever.

Daughters and Other Strangers (#5.25)
31 March 2017 | by (Canada) – See all my reviews

Roseanne and Dan think about Darlene going to college. Roseanne starts thinking that she should let her go because she herself regrets that she hasn't done anything. But when she wants to allow Darlene to go Darlene says that she doesn't want to. Roseanne first thinks it is because of David, but turns out Darlene is afraid to fail. After a talk Roseanne convinces her to go.

So now I am curious about next season. I don't think they will make Darlene fail in college. Interesting what it is going to be like. David was very selfish, but then he is a teen, they usually are.

Fun to see Joseph Gordon-Levitt as DJ's new friend. He is such a cute little child.
