The rookies go undercover in the porn industry
pkfloydmh28 October 2021
In this one, a porn actress is murdered and the rookies go undercover in the porn industry to investigate.

This is a really engaging plot with lots of sordid characters, from heroin addicts to porn barons to syndicate bosses, all of whom are well-played. Joseph Sicari's performance as Frankie is especially powerful and amazing and Jamie Smith-Jackson's performance as Nancy is also strong.

James Hong makes another one of his many, many appearances on various TV shows and in movies, usually playing criminals and thugs.

I continue to find it incredible that actors in the '70s would go on camera without combing their hair. In this episode, Red West, Edward Walsh, Joseph Sicari and Bruce Fairbairn all fall into that category. This is by far the worst collection of hair of any episode so far. Edward Walsh's mop is among the worst I've ever seen on any TV show at any time. Red West's disastrous mop is almost as bad. Then there's Richard Benedict's ugly and horrific mutton chops.

This is another in a string of horrendous performances by Bruce Fairbairn. Not only is his hair atrocious but so is his acting as he once again mumbles everything and speaks in a monotone and basically looks like a deer in the headlights. I don't how anyone saw any acting potential in him or how in the world he got a role on a prime time TV show on one of the three major networks. It really is mystifying.

Despite all of the grooming issues and Bruce Fairbairn's poor performance, this is still a terrific episode and one of the best from this season. It's well-written, intriguing and entertaining.
