This episode gets us ready for the conclusion in part two.

In this Part One episode Lucas, Mark and Micah are riding along a trail and appear to be lost as they are located in Old Mexico. Micah is going to ride to a hilltop to have a look around but on the way is captured by some Mexican bandits and assaulted.

While Lucas and Mark go out looking for Micah, they come into a ghost town where they also meet the bandits. When they ask about Micah they are lead to a site where Micah is buried alive up to the neck. And now the bandits tell Lucas to start digging his own grave site. Lucas will look for a way to distract the bandits and hope that he can save Micah while Mark goes get help.

This was an episode that brings back memories. I can remember, as a child, being frighten when seeing Micah buried up to his neck. For whatever reason that scene has stayed with my my entire life. There really is not much to this episode as it just sets the viewer up for the conclusion (part 2). But it is a good way to get the story started.

Note- The episode was written by actor Robert Culp.

Only Remember Part 1

Warning: Spoilers
Back in '62 I saw the first part of Waste and you had to wait a whole week to see part 2. I couldn't wait to see if Lucas was able to get out of this debacle and save Micah. Alphonso, played by Vito Scotti, scared the crap out of me at 7 years with those protruding teeth and humongous sombrero. Scotti could always bring a character to life. You know his amicable banter will turn vicious. 'I like him he's a good kid. My woman is giving me a kid just like you. What size you boots, guy?'

When part 2 was coming on my sister and I weren't allowed to watch it. Can you imagine not being able to watch the finale and not see how everything turned out. I never forgot that but have seen it many times and really thought what a great season opener. Why Lucas asked Micah, who was dying, if he could shoot a gun and not have Mark assist was bizarre. Mark should have been able to help in this case but I guess they needed Lucas to play the superhero and Mark to light the lantern. The plan to kill the remaining bandits was genius and the way Lucas blows Alphonso away is explosive. Heck he can even deliver a baby and make sure Micah enjoys a bottle. Great episode and thank goodness Lucas had matches.

Waste 1 & 2 episodes are like a spaghetti western!

Waste 1 & 2 episodes remind me of those Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns. Very grim and atmospheric, even eerie at times. I could see Chuck Conners having a career like Eastwood's. He even had a similar squint and intimidating stare like Eastwood's.
