Storyline

Jack Scully is something of a con man using his young friend, Reuben Miles, as a means of getting money. Reuben is a very fast gun but has something of a temper, particularly if he's told someone is saying anything nasty about him behind his back. When most people see the amiable and dim-witted Reuben, they can't quite see the fast gun Scully talks about and happily bet money against him. When they get to North Fork, Scully decides that Reuben should go against Lucas McCain, who has just won the annual sharpshooting contest. It's left to Lucas to show both Scully and Reuben a lesson. An enjoyable- well played episode
15 March 2014 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

This is one of those episode that you cannot help but enjoy. It involves a large frame simpleton, Reuben Miles, that is controlled by a slick promoter, Jack Sully.

Reuben, a nice shot with a handgun, is a person that is easily influenced and Sully can talk Reuben into a gunfight all with words. Sully then takes bets that Reuben can outdraw all others. However Reuben is so absent-minded that he does not even know what is going on and feels that Sully is his only friend.

While in North Fork, Sully finds out that Lucas is the fastest gun in the parts. So he tells Reuben that Lucas has been talking about him. He even tells Reuben that Lucas has been talking about his mother so that the two will have a gunfight. But little does Reuben know that Sully has seen Lucas and has actually bet that Lucas will win. Sully is nobody's friend.

An enjoyable episode that was well played by the entire cast. Denny Miller is excellent as the simpleton that believes whatever he is told. And even Dabbs Greer, in an usual role for him, does a nice job of playing the slimy promoter that is only for himself. Another nice story that worked well on the screen. Good show.
