A sickness causes problems for the citizens of North Fork.

In this episode, Lucas and Mark find a covered Wagon that is parked alone during the afternoon. When Lucas goes to investigate, he finds that a young man and woman are sick with fever. With the way Lucas is, he takes them back to his house to take care of the ill travelers.

Later Lucas learns that the couple has yellow fever. For the sake of the story plus people in the late 1800's did not know how the fever was transmitted, it was believed that the fever was highly contagious. Lucas still makes it a point to care for the young couple and he sends Mark to stay with Hattie until the fever breaks.

In town a man named Bret Conway gets all the people excited by saying that the sickness will soon ravage the entire town. He says that he saw yellow fever in the war and the only outcome is death. This gets all the townsfolk upset and soon they make their way out to the McCain's ranch to burn the fever from North Fork.

As with most Rifleman episodes, this has a nice moral message when Lucas has a dilemma on who really is his friends. Paul Fix does a nice job of reviewing some of the aspects of living in North Fork which causes the townsfolk to rethink the decision and hopefully saves the town from a mob scene. With so many nice episodes this may seem kind of plain. But it still was good as anything on TV today. Good watch.
