An episode that seemed written for another series.
kfo949424 March 2014
Lucas and Mark are on the trail of a larger cougar when they find tracks in the loose soil. Lucas tells Mark to stay with the horses and he walks off the trail. All of the sudden the cougar appears in a tree right above Mark. When Mark yells, Lucas comes running and shoots at the cougar. However, he misses and the cougar runs away. And now Lucas seems to be going through some type of mental collapse all because he missed the cougar which could have hurt his beloved son.

As we get deeper into season five, it appears that the scripts are getting weak. Lucas cannot just be glad that his son was not hurt, instead he goes through some sort of internal conflict for no reason. And out of character for Lucas McCain, he picks a fight with a stranger for little or no reason.

This just was so away from the norm that it seemed written for another series. For two episodes in a row, the script is weak and not very entertaining. The show did end on a high note but could not make up for the rest of the show.

McCain misses a shot and goes nuts!!

After watching most episodes, with all those near-death experiences of Lucas and Mark, I was unprepared to see Lucas go totally nuts and act like a complete jerk just because he missed one shot to a cougar. I mean, he could've (and should have) shot it again multiple times to make certain he killed it.

It's amazing Lucas and Mark didn't already have major PTSD anyways from all those bad guys constantly trying to kill them over all those years, lol!!

Obsession over a mountain lion?

Seems the episode is too much about Mclane's ego and obsession about missing a simple shot, totally skewing his personality and objective. Perhaps redemption at the end? BTW, McLane does NOT break the 4th board in the opening credits while staring at the camera.
