Going off the rails
26 July 2009 | by (Ambrosia) – See all my reviews

Simon is returning to London by train when the communication cord is pulled. Passenger Janie Lennox ( Ciaran Madden ) claims to have witnessed a brutal murder in a disused electronics factory. The ever-gallant Saint offers not only to pay the fine but also investigate her story.

The police, headed by Inspector Grant ( Frederick Jaegar ) do not take her seriously, especially as she was recently released from a psychiatric hospital.

At the factory, Templar and Janie discover the corpse of a biker. Then he is nearly killed by Plackett ( Brian Glover ). The plot thickens...

Another British-based 'Saint' adventure, possibly made to offset the more expensive location-based ones. Its fairly routine. No guest-stars, unless you count Madden, who is only a star in her own home. It is hard to see why Templar should automatically leap to her defence, apart from a desire to get her into bed. He's also having a fling with policewoman Linda ( Sabina Franklyn ) so its a wonder he has the energy left to do any sleuthing. The trench coat he wears much of the time makes him look like Inspector Clouseau.

The denouement is not all that surprising, there are not many suspects on show for one thing. Not one of John Kruse's better efforts then.

When the bikers showed up, I thought "Great! Templar's going to get into a fight with them!" but it never happens. One of the gang - 'Ted'

  • is played by George Sweeney, a.k.a. 'Speed' in the John Sullivan

sitcom 'Citizen Smith'. Heather Wright, who plays 'Sally', brought sex appeal to the underrated second season of the B.B.C.'s 'Survivors' as 'Melanie'.
