It does a nice job of setting up the characters.

I recently was told by a friend that he liked "Renegade" and I should give it a try. The first episode I saw was "Family Ties"...and the horrible writing of some of the characters shocked me. But, not wanting to be unfair, I decided to try another episode....and this time start at the beginning. I was much less annoyed on my second attempt.

The pilot episode does a good job of establishing the characters and was enjoyable. Apparently, Reno (Lorenzo Lamas) was a good cop who was uncovering corruption in the police force. When he got too close, the cops released a psychotic killer and gave his instructions to kill Reno. Unfortunately, they shot is girlfriend instead...and put her in a permanent vegetative state. And, to make matters worse, they set up Reno to make it look like he murdered a police sergeant....and now he's on the run.

Among the folks looking for Reno is Bobby and his sister, and you know that eventually they won't be chasing Reno but teaming up with him, as they were his friends for the duration of the show. At the same time, Reno is looking for Hog Adams...the man who killed his girlfriend.

The show did a good job of establishing the characters. In addition, I really liked Bobby...his dialog was very funny and enjoyable as he talked about his Native American heritage. Instead of avoiding it and the stereotypes, Bobby has fun with it...and that's refreshing.

Overall, not a great episode but one that I should have watched first...as it leaves you wanting to see more.

Lorenzo Lamas is the Renegade in "Renegade: Renegade"!
gridoon20245 December 2008
Lorenzo Lamas plays a cop who agrees to testify against some dirty colleagues and finds himself targeted for murder. However the man assigned to do the job, a tattooed prison convict, misses him and shoots his fiancé instead. A high-ranking (and dirty) police officer finds the opportunity to frame him for this shooting, as well as for the killing of another (dirty) cop. With the woman he loved in a coma and a warrant issued for his arrest, Lamas tries to track down the convict and crosses paths with a native American bounty hunter (Branscombe Richmond) and his beautiful step-sister (Kathleen Kinmont). All this and more happen in just 44 minutes, which gives you an idea of how exposition-loaded this pilot episode of this surprisingly long-running series is. Nevertheless, it serves as an adequate introduction to the main characters of the series, so I guess it does its job. Kinmont has a rocking body. (**1/2)

Renegade

Until this show Lorenzo Lamas was only some hunk beefcake from Falcon's Crest.

After that ended it was a life of B movies until Renegade came along. It was a Stephen J Cannell production who knew how to milk the action/adventure television formula back in the 1980s and 90s.

Cannell appears as a crooked cop. Lieutenant 'Dutch' Dixon who feels the heat as cop Reno Raines gets evidence on police corruption.

Dixon sends an ex con down to kill him but he gets his girlfriend instead. Dixon also makes sure that Raines is framed for murder as his gun used to kill someone.

Now on the run. Dixon hires bounty hunter Bobby SixKiller to hunt him down. Only Reno ends up helping out when Bobby and his half sister Cheyenne end up in trouble.

At least Bobby SixKiller realises something about Reno's predicament does not add up. They end up teaming up as Reno under the alias Vince Black travels the country to look for bounties. Hoping he would be able to clear his name in due course.

You can sense there was a bit of The A Team here, wronged outlaws on the run. This was Lorenzo Lamas looking cool on a motorcycle.

There was a lot of set up in the pilot. I think Bobby's native Indian stories could end up grating after a bit.

Renegade Seasons 4 & 5
fcnico11 December 2008
This was a great show, never missed it on "USA" network. T.N.T before that. I know this has been covered to death, but can anyone point me in the right direction as far as obtaining seasons 4 & 5? I tried every search I can think of, emailed "Cannell.com", searched online stores, distributors. Contacting "Anchor Bay" was futile, they say they have no plans of releasing these final 2 seasons. What a joke when you consider some of the shows that ultimately get put on the shelves. I was unable to view the rest of a user comment that looked like it may be a viable option. Something to the effect of "Alright listen up you block heads" or something like that, and he went on to say "this is what you need to do" or something. If anyone has an idea please help. It's good to be here. Thanks.
