Danny John-Jules is notorious on the set for forgetting his lines. But he was the only cast member who was able to say "Cesium-francolithic-mixi-alibidium-rixy-dixy-doxy-dexy-droxide" correctly.
A caption at the end says "The End. The Smeg It Is." This was referring to a planned featured film version of the series. But the film never came to fruition. It would take ten years for the reunion series, "Back to Earth", to premiere.
The original planned finale was a two-part episode titled "Earth". It was to have the Red Dwarf crew arrive back at Earth only for the ship to accidentally destroy the world's major landmarks. This idea was discarded due to budget limitations. Doug Naylor would blame the expensive special effects in "Pete" as the cause of the lack of budget for "Earth".
The working title for this episode was "Every Dog".
An ending was planned in which Rimmer's alter ego, Ace Rimmer, returns but this idea was discarded.
