Death is a part of life

"The Burying of Sammy Hart" opens with Johnny Yuma arriving at the ranch of Aaron Wallace (George Wallace) in search of a job, only to see foreman Deeb Erickson (Charles Maxwell, previously seen in "Land") conduct a whipping over a stolen horse. Aaron's wife Sarah (Peggy Stewart) informs Johnny how their son Billy (Eugene Martin) was kidnapped by elderly Kiowa Sammy Hart (Iron Eyes Cody), who apparently stole Erickson's Pinto as well. Yuma finds both the Pinto and the boy, and learns that he went with Sammy willingly because Hart was his dearest friend but lies inside the cave of his birth ready to die. Johnny's knowledge of the ways of the Kiowa earns Billy's trust, and assists in the proper ritual for burial. We first learned of Yuma's previous encounter with his Kiowa blood brothers in the early episode "Yellow Hair." Young Eugene Martin was billed under his real name Eugene Mazzola for his role in 1956's "The Ten Commandments," as the son of Rameses and Nefretiri.
