"A Grave for Johnny Yuma" opens in ominous fashion, with Johnny encountering a bitter and grieving Simon Wilson (Fred Beir), digging a grave for a rebel soldier named Johnny Yuma, who disgraced his sister Evelyn and abandoned her to an early death. Johnny takes a false name and listens to Wilson's tale of woe, which includes actual details about Yuma, from his serving with the 3rd Texas Cavalry, to the scar above his heart. Assuming that the stranger knows Johnny Yuma, Simon asks him to help him find the missing rebel, and Johnny agrees. The discovery of the real Yuma's horse, followed by an attempted ambush, should convince Simon of Johnny's true character, but a letter he finds reveals that the soldier that saved his life is the hated rebel he's been searching for. Easily captured by an angry Yuma, Simon remains two hours behind as Johnny tracks down the imposter (John Brinkley, later seen in "Ben White"), under several different names, and learns the reasons behind his deception. Brief appearances from Bruno Ve Sota (first of four) and Olan Soule (last of three), while headliner Fred Beir, though a busy TV actor, never really made a name for himself, starring in a trio of European titles without the success of Clint Eastwood.
