The Old Backward Ferris Wheel Bit
29 March 2015 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Ray Bradbury had an affection for carnivals. Many of his stories and books were set in one of these. In this particular one, a boy runs to a friend's house and gets him to run back to the fairgrounds. It turns out that they have a Ferris wheel there that can make a person younger when it runs backwards. You know. That old saw. When it goes forward the person ages. Well, one of the carnies becomes a child. Why? So he can be taken in by an old lady and then steal her valuables. As is the case with most children in the Bradbury ethos, no one believes them. Of course, the kids' stories are so ridiculous that it would be amazing if anyone were to believe them? Of course, the two boys now have a mission. Somehow, this great storyteller decided this one was worth publishing. Oh well.
