The drovers reach the end of the drive at Junction City. Favor plans to sell the herd to Ben Dennis, but decides to wait till the next day to count the cattle and finalize the deal. Meanwhile, that night Favor and Rowdy are invited to dine with the Dennis family at the fancy restaurant in town, and a half dozen drovers not on night duty are allowed to go to town for a bath, refreshments, etc. Unfortunately for the drovers, the city fathers (Dennis and his partner Farnsworth) are in the process of gentrifying the town, emphasizing non-cattle business and generally looking down on and refusing to serve "uncouth" drovers. The drovers are barred at the hotel, restaurant, barbershop and even stables for their horses. Dining with the Dennis family, Favor is unaware of and adding to the drovers' indignation which has reached the boiling point where they are ready to quit the drive and rumble with the townspeople.
The drive has ended at the Dennis ranch near Junction City. The men have one more day left when they do the final head count. Favor has Rowdy pay the men part of their wages so they can go to town for a change of pace. Mr. Dennis has reservations at the hotel for Favor and Rowdy but the men are told the hotel is full. They are rejected at the livery stable, barbershop, hotel, and all other establishments. Yo Yo meets a salesman who informs Yo Yo he will need a tie to eat in town so Yo Yo buys a suit from him. Yo Yo goes to the hotel alone in his new suit so he is seated. The men are not allowed in but when they see Yo Yo they join him but ultimately are told only beef and beans are left at a hefty price. They return to the cattle pens with the promise Mr. Dennis will tell Favor they wish to see him but Dennis ignores the request. Rowdy returns to the pens where he slowly learns what is happening. A downpour causes the men to return to hotel where a fight starts between them and the Sheriff's men. Favor and the leading citizens arrive to stop the fight. Favor learns the truth about the town's plans causing him to decide the town isn't good enough for his cattle either.
The drive reaches Junction City so the men are ready to blow off steam. They want hotel rooms, good food, and baths. Their reception in Junction City is icy at best including the livery stable and Favor seems to be ignoring their plight.
